Burrow #1

ISNMR is a eusocial fraternal organization for clothing-averse humans of all genders, ethnicities, abilities, and neurotypes, founded in 2021 in Houston, Texas, USA.

We’re eusocial! How social are eu?

The actual naked mole rat, Heterocephalus glaber—a rodentine species native to East Africa—is among very few mammal species that live in colonies ruled by a queen. As with social insects, the queen is the only female able or allowed to reproduce.

The adjective eusocial is one of those odd Greco-Latin hybrids coined by scientists. Its literal meaning is “well or thoroughly companionable.” Its scientific meaning refers to living in colonies organized around a female authority figure.

ISNMR is a place where all who self-identify as women can claim the title of queen. An ISNMR burrow may elect a Queen of Queens, who may assemble an entourage to serve as the the Burrow Council.

Our identification with naked mole rats stems not only from their lack of a fur coat, but from their living in underground communities. ISNMR may not be physically underground, but Mole Rats tend to have culturally “underground” views and tastes.

Consent, Consent, Consent

This organization’s main focus is feeling comfortable in your own skin with like-minded comrades. Nudity represents liberation from society’s shaming of our bodies and certain very functional parts thereof. However, our emphasis is not on sexuality. Nudity and sex are not the same thing, despite what society and media may tell us.

This doesn’t mean that we don’t enjoy sex; it means that we are mindful of personal boundaries, and we don’t cross those boundaries without obtaining Consent.

See this page for a deeper exploration of Mole Rat Consent Culture.

Taking It Worldwide

ISNMR hopes to spread its vision as far and wide as possible, establishing similar burrows in other metropolitan areas, with Mole Rats willing to open their homes and hearts to Mole Rats from other burrows.

Burrow #1 is just getting started, not yet ready to export the concept. However, if any group outside of Greater H-Town is interested in forming a burrow, reach out to us—eventually. (We also haven’t figured out the best way to contact us yet.)
